February housing starts (released March 26) decreased 8.7% to 1,162,000 units. Single-family starts decreased 17.0% to 805,000 units, while multi-family increased by 17.8% to 357,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, decreased by 1.6% to 1,296,000 units (SAAR).

• Midwest (+ 26.8%)
• South (- 6.8%)
• West (- 18.9%)
