September housing starts (released October 17) decreased 5.3% to 1,201,000 units. Single-family starts decreased 0.9% to 871,000 units, while multi-family decreased by 15.2% to 330,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, decreased by 0.6% to 1,241,000 units (SAAR).

• Northeast (+ 29%)
• Midwest (- 14%)
• South (- 13.7%)
• West (+ 6.6%)
