SBCA is pleased to announce the August housing starts and building permit data is now available online!

Below is a summary.

U.S.

August housing starts (released September 19) increased 9.2% to 1,282,000 units. Single-family starts increased 1.9% to 876,000 units, while multi-family increased by 29.3% to 406,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, increased by 2.5% to 1,213,000 units (SAAR).

Starts increased in 3 regions:

• Northeast ( 0.0%)
• Midwest (+ 9.1%)
• South (+ 6.5%)
• West (+ 19.1%)
