SBCA is pleased to announce the May housing starts and building permit data is now available online!

Below is a summary.

U.S.

May housing starts (released June 19) increased 5.0% to 1,350,000 units. Single-family starts increased 3.9% to 936,000 units, while multi-family increased by 7.5% to 414,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, decreased by 4.6% to 1,301,000 units (SAAR).

Starts decreased in 3 regions:

• Northeast (- 15.0%)
• Midwest (+ 62.2%)
• South (- 0.9%)
• West (- 4.1%)
