SBCA is pleased to announce the March housing starts and building permit data is now available online!

Below is a summary.

U.S.

March housing starts (released April 17) increased 1.9% to 1,319,000 units. Single-family starts decreased 3.7% to 867,000 units, while multi-family increased by 14.4% to 452,000 units. Total U.S. permits, an indicator of future construction, increased by 2.5% to 1,354,000 units (SAAR).

Starts increased in 2 regions:

• Northeast (+ 0.8%)
• Midwest (+ 22.4%)
• South (- 0.6%)
• West (- 1.5%)
